8 Animals That Can Fly Without Wings

1. Flying Squirrel- Uses a patagium (flap of skin between its limbs) to glide between trees. Can cover distances of up to 300 feet (90 meters) in a single glide!

2. Draco Lizard (Flying Dragon)-Has rib-extended "wings" made of skin folds that help it glide between trees. Can glide up to 30 feet (9 meters).

3. Flying Fish- Uses enlarged pectoral finsto glide above water. Can "fly" for about 650 feet (200 meters)in one jump!

4. Colugo (Flying Lemur)- Has a large skin membrane extending from its neck to its tail. Can glide up to 450 feet (137 meters) in tropical forests.

5. Flying Frog- Certain species (like the Wallace’s flying frog) have webbed feet that act like parachutes. Can glide up to 50 feet (15 meters).

6. Paradise Tree Snake- Flattens its body and wiggles in mid-air to control its glide. Can glide up to 100 feet (30 meters).

7. Mobula Rays (Flying Rays)- Can leap several feet above water and "fly" briefly before splashing back down. Scientists believe they do this for mating displays or escaping predators.

8. Flying Geckos- Have skin flaps on their body and webbed feet that help them glide. They use their tail to steer while gliding between trees.
